  According to the 1880 census of Viroqua, Wisconsin, Pearl was living with his brother-in-law Charles William Graves and his sister, Ida Izona Rea Graves when he was 13 years old (the census shows him as 11). His mother's birthplace is incorrectly given as Pennsylvania and his birth year is given as 1869. Lucinda Barber lived until 1883 and probably died of a long illness that might have begun five or more years before her death. James, unable to care for Pearl and Clyde himself, sent them to live with their elder siblings. The 1880 census of Veroqua shows Clyde living, at the age of 16, with his older brother Alfred Amberson Rea, Jesse, only 8 at the time, could not be found in the 1880 census and where he may have been living isn't known. In 1888 and 1889, Pearl lived in Ashland, Wisconsin, working as a carpenter. He was boarding at 213 E. Second St. In 1920, at 52, Pearl was a carpenter in Tracy, Minnesota. The 1900 census of Tracy shows him living alone in Tracy, making his living repairing bicycles. Pearl was a carpenter and cabinet maker. Pearl's first wife, Eva C. Murphy died of consumption just five months after giving birth to their son Gerald. Apparently, Pearl remarried, to Ella Yeager afterward, but this ended in divorce and Pearl wound up sending Gerald to live with Eva's parents, Seth and Desdemonia (Desemona) Murphy. At least, I think that's the order of events, as Pearl was only 28 when he and Eva were married, so it's more likely Eva was his first wife, rather than Ella.
