- conquered Lothian 1018. King of Alba, King of Strathclyde. Said to have married an Irishwoman from Ossory. Killed by his kinsman.
According to Mike Ashley's "Mammoth Book of British Kings & Queens," Malcolm was born Malcolm Mac Kenneth, and acceeded to the Scottish throne as Malcolm II. Previously, from 990 to 995, he was King of Cumbria, and in 997-1005, King of Strathclyde. He acceeded to the Scottish throne in 1005 and ruled until his death. According to Ashley, Malcolm's kingship of Strathclyde was "one of rivalry with Malcolm MacDonald..."
