RESIDENCE: He resided at Dinefawr Castell from 1077 till his death at Glyn Rhondda in 1089. (Dwnn, Heraldic Visitations of Wales, vol. 1 p. 220 fn. 4)
DEATH: After the battle of Hirwaun Wrgan, he was pursued and taken in Glyn Rhondda and immediately put to death, being then above 92 years of age. (Dwnn, Heraldic Visitations of Wales, vol. 1 p. 196 fn. 4)
DEATH: He was "slain near Brecon in 1090, aged 90." (Griffith, Pedigrees of Anglesey and Carnarvonshire Families, p. 301)
DEATH: He was slain by "Iestyn ap Gwrgant Prince of Glamorgan in 1093 in his 98th years, after the battle of Hirwaun Wrgan". (Evans, British Genealogist, book 8 p. H74)
DESCENDANTS: He founded 2nd Royal Tribe and the medieval dynasty of Deheubarth.
REMARKS: The term King can be misleading. In Wales till the middle of the 12th century individuals were styled 'Brenin' meaning chief or high one, and 'Arglwydd' meaning lord or master.
(Research) KINSHIP: Investigate> Dwnn's 'Heraldic Visitations of Wales' volume 2 page 99 gives him daughters named Efa and Arddun.
(Research) IDENTITY: Conflict/Error> Dwnn's 'Heraldic Visitations of Wales' volume 2 page 280 calls him Yr Arglwydd Rhys and makes him the son of Gruffudd ap Rhys "Tewdwr". It also gives him as wives Margred ferch Gruffudd "Llwyd" and Gwenllian ferch Madog ap Maredudd.

(Research) KINSHIP: Conflict/Error> Evans' 'British Genealogist' book 8 page H74 gives him additional children: Cynan, slain in 1093; Elinor who married "Moreidig Warwyn"; Tangwystl who married "Sir Jno Rudd knt of ye Sepulchre"; [unknown] who married "Eineon Glyd"; and Catrin who married "Cadivor ap Dyvnwal". The daughters Elinor, [unknown] and Catrin are his great-grandchildren by his grandson Rhys.
