| Notes |
- According to Burke, Ralph accompanied William the Conqueror during the Norman Conquest, and was one of the principal commanders at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. After the Conquest, he was sent to Wales to encounter Edric, Earl of Shrewsbury, "who still resisted the Norman yoke." After a long seige at Wigmore Castle, Ralph was victorius and delivered Edric as prisoner to King William I. As reward for his service, William granted him Edric's lands and Wigmore Castle.
