| Notes |
- According to the 1860 census, Edgar or Edward was 4 years old in 1860. His older brother William's biographical sketch says William and Melissa were the only surviving children of John and Elizabeth. This bio was written after 1902, though, so Edgar/Edward died before 1902.
According to the 1880 census, Edgar's name was Edward. It could be the census taker mistakenly wrote down "Edward" instead of Edgar, as there is other data that says his name was Edgar. He was living at home at age 22 in Newburg, Cumberland County, where he and his father were both saddlers. John's wife, Elizabeth, was 55. The census must have occurred before September, as Elizabeth hadn't yet turned 56. The census says John was 65, though, according to the data I have for John's birthdate, he would have been 67 at the time of the census and 68 a month or two afterward.
