  The 1880 census of Liberty, Woodbury County, Iowa shows a Gipson or Gibson Bates, age 45, born in 1835, married but living alone, a farmer. It shows his parents as being born in Vermont and shows that Gibson, himself, was also born in Vermont. If this is correct, it means Moses didn't move to Indiana until after 1835.
